Frank Miller and Lynn Varley channel Hugh Ferriss in 1986, three years before the Tim Burton movie.

Dark Knight Returns promo poster by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley. Definitely a Hugh Ferias/Art Deco vibe. Definitely influenced the Tim Burton movie and the Animated Series.

Miracle Monday, 1981, a novel by Elliot S! Maggin
“Shortly before four in the afternoon on the third Monday in the month of May, the people of the city of Metropolis learned the meaning of joy - the first thing many of them saw was the red-and-blue figure of Superman drawing a line across their sky, and he became the symbol of their joy.  It felt like a miracle.
"Happy Miracle Monday, Superman.  It’s the first Miracle Monday.  It’s a holiday.  People will celebrate today for hundreds, maybe thousand of years…""

Your heart is frozen and dry. Who’d love a cyborg, a person who is not a person? So remember, forget about Earthlings. They’re no concern of yours. There’s only one emotion that controls your mind. What emotion is that? What controls you?

The main thing that I learned about conspiracy theory is that conspiracy theorists actually believe in a conspiracy because that is more comforting. The truth of the world is that it is chaotic. The truth is, that it is not the Jewish banking conspiracy or the grey aliens or the 12 foot reptiloids from another dimension that are in control. The truth is more frightening, nobody is in control. The world is rudderless.
